of the transporters. (Union?) What about helpless patients? A hospital's job is to provide comfort and help, not horror stories. I don't see Cabrini helping the patients one bit. It seems geared (naturally) to making the bureaucracy feel comfortable.
Can you honestly say that Cabrini has the patients' needs in mind? I doubt it.
Lastly, Mr. Frerichs, I called you twice while in Cabrini. You never returned my calls, kind sir. I guess if a patient wants you, you feel it is best avoided.
Let's have more English-speaking nurses, no matter where they are from originally.
Go ahead and ignore my letter. A copy will appear in PWA Newsletter at GMHC and possibly in the New York Native.
I want answers!
Carmine Buono Brooklyn, New York
P.S. The names of the parties involved in my sadistic treatment are available upon request.
[Editor's note: Mr. Buono's letter was actually addressed to a Mr. Riley at Cabrini. When we called the hospital to find out his first name, we were informed that he has not been there for some time, and that Frerichs is now the head administrator. We have accordingly changed the name, for purposes of accuracy.]

Dear Mr. Frost:
My wife and I are appalled that you are trying to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, using appearance and "irregular beneficiaries" as criteria for insurability (New York Magazine, 12/16).
I sometimes wear a pinky ring and my wife wears slacks quite often. Suspicious! We also go to the opera and ballet a lot, which I suppose is suspect behavior by your standards. And I don't really care very much for baseball. We must be totally uninsurable.
You should be worried about our zip code, too-10025. That's on the Upper West Side, and you know there are a lot of "those people" who live up there. Why, just the other day I saw a man with an earring on the Broadway bus. You cannot be too safe. Maybe you'd better blackball the whole postal zone.
Let us save you the trouble. We do not do business with bigots. Forget about us as potential customers, gentlemen, and as many of our friends, colleagues, and neighbors as we can contact about it.

To the Editor:
December 5, 1985
Here's a couple of quick questions for the governor and his ax-man Axelrod.
What would you do if you found vast numbers of people engaging in compulsive behavior that killed thousands upon thousands, and, merely by being in close proximity to these compulsives, injury was being inflicted upon people who did not engage in this compulsive behavior? Would you ban this compulsive behavior? You would? Why haven't you? I'm talking about smoking, which has killed hundreds of thousands, and the two of you seem quite content to settle for a warning on the package.
